Canadian Coast Guard Information
After a few requests for information regarding the coast guard here on the
west coast, I did some investigating and have turned up the latest info on
stations, times, freqs, etc.

1. Vancouver Coast Guard Radio c/s VAI

Mailing address: Telecommunications Operations Manager, Coast Guard Radio
Station, Transport Canada, 109 - 4611 Cowley Crescent, Vancouver International
Airport, Richmond, B.C., V7B 1B9.(Sorry for the poor format as my e-mail pack
age here at work does not do columns very well.)

CW: 1030, 1830 and 2230 PST on 4235, 6493, 8453, 12876 and 17175.2 - high seas
wx and notices to shipping.Traffic lists are done at half past all odd hours
on these frequencies plus 440 khz.Also works 500, 22638.5 khz.


USB: 1100, 1800 and 2300 PST on 4384 - North Pacific synopsis and forecast.
Also runs pp on 4384/4092, 6513/6212, 8737/8213, 13095/12248, 17263/16381 and
22753/22057. Also monitors 4125.


TOR: 1100 PST on 12599.5; 1130, 1830 and 2330 PST on 8428.5; 1800 and 2300 PST
on 4214.5 - all include high seas forecast, synopsis for coastal areas, light
house reports, ocean buoy reports (BIG waves out there), off shore notices to
shipping and traffic lists.Other TOR freqs. are 6318.5, 16822 and 22391.5.



2. Prince Rupert Coast Guard Radio c/s VAJ

Mailing address: Telecommunications Operations Manager, Coast Guard Radio
Station, Transport Canada, Bag 1900, Prince Rupert British Columbia, V8J 4C2.

CW: 0820, 1120, 2020 and half past all even hours PST on 420 khz - traffic
lists only.

USB: 0205, 0505, 0805, 1105, 1405, 1705, 2005 and 2305 PST on 2054 - Synopsis
and forecast for coastal areas, lighthouse wx reports, ocean bouy reports,
traffic lists and notices to shipping.

NAVTEX: 0030, 0830, 1230 and 2030 PST on 518 khz - wx; 0430 and 1630 PST on
518 - notices to shipping.


3. Tofino Coast Guard Radio c/s VAE

Mailing address: Telecommunications Operations Manager, Coast Guard Radio
Station, Transport Canada, P.O. Box 345, Ucluelet, B.C., V0R 3A0.

CW: twenty minutes past even hours PST on 478 khz - traffic lists.

USB: 0150, 0450, 0750, 1050, 1350, 1650 and 1950 PST on 2054 - same info as
Prince Rupert CGR; 0930, 1530 and 2100 PST on 4125 - High Seas wx; 0150 then
every three hours PST on 2054 - traffic lists. Tofino also does pp on
2458/2340.

NAVTEX: 0110, 0510, 1310 and 1710 PST on 518 khz - wx; 0910 and
2110 PSTon 518 - notices to shipping.


Others:

Canadian Forces Fleet Meteorological Broadcasts (fax) from station CKN on
2754.5, 4268, 6456 and 12753 at (all PST) 0245, 0300, 0310, 0320, 1025 to
1110, 1230 to 1245, 1515 to 1540 and 2115 every ten minute to 2240.

Seasonal (Arctic) Coast Guard Radio Stations(Summer only)

1. Inuvik c/s VFA

Mailing address: Telecommunications Operations Manager, Coast Guard Radio
Station, Transport Canada, P.O. Box 2659, Inuvik, NWT, X0E 0T0.

CW: 0300 and 1500UTC on 6351.5 - wx and traffic lists. Also operates 4292, 84
56 and 12671.

USB: 0235 and 1435 UTC on 2558, 4363 and 6218.6 - wx and traffic lists. Also
operates 5803, 6501, 8794 and 13116.

FAX: 0200 and 1630 UTC on 8456 - various analyses.


2. & 3. Iqaluit c/s VFF and Resolute c/s VFR

FAX: 0300-0500, 0900-0936, 0936-1140, 1200-1236, 1236-1500, 2000-2200,
2200-2236, 2300-2336 and 2336-0230 UTC on 3251.1 and 7708.1 - various charts.

Also, Fort Simpson VFF6 and Hay River VFH3 (addresses available from me on requ
est) operate on 5803. This is called the MacKenzie River Watershed Emergency
Frequency and is monitored during the BRIEF navigation season. This is usable
by land, air and sea craft (so check those log books.)

My apologies to those getting this crammed down their throats involuntarily. I
hope some folks find this stuff useful. Contact me for corrections/further
info. As you can see the coast guard here on the west coast and up north is
heavy on the MF spectrum with only a little HF. All coastal stations do
operate 2182.I also have a complete listing of west coast low frequency
beacons for those interested.

PS you may hear Comox CGR c/s VAC on 2182 or 2054.
